Hanguljo (“we,” “our,” or “us”) is committed to protecting your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, and safeguard your information when you use the Hanguljo mobile application and website (collectively, the “Service”).

2. Information We Collect

Account Information

When you create an account, we collect your email address and display name. If you sign in with Apple or Google, we receive only the information you authorize those services to share.

Learning Data

We store your learning progress — lessons completed, review history, test scores, and SRS scheduling data. This data is essential for the app to personalize your study and function correctly.

Device Information

We may collect basic device information such as device type, operating system version and app version for debugging and improving the app.

3. How We Use Your Information

• Provide and personalize your Korean learning experience

• Process in-app purchases and subscriptions

• Improve app performance and fix bugs

4. Data Storage & Security

Your data is stored using secure cloud infrastructure with industry-standard encryption. Learning data is encrypted both in transit (TLS) and at rest (AES-256). We apply strict access controls to protect your information.

5. Data Sharing

We do not sell, trade, or share your personal information with third parties for marketing purposes. We may share data only:

• Service Providers: trusted providers for cloud storage, analytics and crash reporting, used solely to operate and improve the app.
• Legal Requirements: when required by law or valid legal process.

6. Camera & Image Processing (OCR)

Hanguljo offers an optional OCR feature that lets you capture or select images containing Korean text to look up words and vocabulary.

• On-Device Processing: all image processing and text recognition is performed entirely on your device. No images are uploaded to our servers or any third party.
• No Image Storage: images are processed temporarily in memory and never saved or transmitted. The image is discarded immediately after recognition.
• Permissions: the app requests camera and photo library access only when you choose to use OCR. You can revoke these permissions any time in your device settings without affecting other features.

7. Microphone & Speech (Shadowing)

The conversation “shadowing” feature uses your device microphone and on-device speech recognition so you can practice speaking Korean aloud. Audio is processed on your device to give you instant feedback and is not recorded, stored, or sent to our servers. The microphone is used only while you are actively practicing a line, and you can deny or revoke the permission in your device settings at any time.

8. Advertising

Hanguljo prioritizes your learning experience. We do not show intrusive, pop-up, or interruptive ads during study sessions. For free users, ads appear exclusively as opt-in rewarded ads — you only see one when you actively choose to (for example, to unlock an extra lesson tab). When you watch a rewarded ad, a third-party ad provider (such as Google AdMob) may collect limited device identifiers to serve the ad, handled under that provider’s privacy policy. Premium subscribers enjoy a completely ad-free experience.

9. Push Notifications

With your explicit consent, Hanguljo may send study reminders, SRS review-due alerts, streak alerts and important account updates. You can enable or disable notifications any time in your device settings (Settings > Notifications > Hanguljo) or within the app. We collect only a device token to deliver notifications; it contains no personal information and is never used for advertising or tracking.

11. Account Deletion

You can request account deletion any time through the app settings or our account deletion page. When you delete your account, all personal data and learning progress is permanently removed within 30 days.

12. Children’s Privacy

Hanguljo is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe we have, please contact us immediately.

13. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of significant changes through the app or by email. Continued use after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
